Garden Makeover

So, I know I’ve been pretty quiet on here of late… it’s not for a lack of wanting to be here, I just haven’t been able to. It seems like there’s lots to tell, but I can’t really think what. So for now you’ll just have to have some pictures of our mini garden makeover.

Unfortunately James and I haven’t been the best at looking after the garden here at our rental. Well, we didn’t kill it, but we just didn’t tend it. But we realised we weren’t being very good stewards of what was given to us, and needed to show we care a bit. Also, one of our neighbours told us that a plant that was growing in the little patch with a sweet pink flower was actually poisonous. With a little one who’s just learnt to crawl about, we thought we’d better get it out. There are two small garden plots either side of the short path that leads to the door- both needed lots of attention.

So, this is pretty much what we started with (we don’t usually have the bin sitting right there :D):

Bit yuck and overgrown, right? Yep.

And so, I started on one of the plots, ripped everything out, and then the older neighbours across the carpark (who have taken quite a liking to ‘Jamie’ and bub, but seem to forget my name!) came over with some geranium cuttings. So then we had this…

:( I tried…

I knew there couldn’t be much improvement without spending money on it, so I just left it like that, and the other one still all overgrown. But then James thought to use some of the plants he’s been growing for his future/dream nursery. Yay! Then, while at Bunnings to get some potting mix for his plant projects, we saw Organic Sugar Cane Mulch for $9.98. So we bought it. And used it and the plants. And together they make quite a nice looking garden I think.

The finished product:

The plants are all quite young yet, but once they’re grown, it’ll look all nice and full. And now I actually think about, and like, watering the garden :)

Oh, and thank you all for the lovely comments!

-Bloss, you should definitely start an edible garden! You’d love it! It’s quite fun once you actually get into it. And we still haven’t been able to catch up at Church :( Maybe this Sunday!

-Harri! I miss you too. Come visit!!

-Elizabeth! I love you!

-Maddy- Thanks for sharing the link! Those cookies look like so much fun to make (and eat!). I love the ice-cream cones and watermelon ones. You should totally do them for Eleanor’s birthday!

-Much love to you too, Abbie!

-Bethany, the top is indeed one I bought from Katies :) Good picking! :) Pretty comfy, ey?

-Mum, DD, and A- love you lots and lots! Thanks for appreciating my blog, even though it’s usually all second-hand news :)
